Northern Athletics 10 mile road running championship moved to the Stockport for 2014. On a cold and wet December Sunday morning, conditions which might favour an endurance event (rain at the start and hailstones at the presentation, and a cold wind in between) However this did not deter the hardy Northern athletes with an entry of over 1100 and the track at Woodbank stadium was well packed as the athletes got away in the downpour.

It was just short of 50 minutes on the clock when the lead bike was seen followed by a yellow Stockport vest as the leader started his 300 m on the track.The winner was Stockports Andrew Davies 50.25 followed 7 seconds later by his team mate Jack Norris. Third man was Ben Fish of Blackburn 50.54. The N.A. men’s team medals went to Stockport, Altrincham, and Sale.

Sophie Cowpar of Lincoln Wellington (60.57) was the winner of the women championship with Jenny Knass of Stockport(61.44) and Jo Buckley of Bingley (64.07) third.  The team medals went as follows Gold to Sale, Katie White,  Rachael Cavanagh and Deidre McCarthy, Silver to Spectrum Striders, Victoria Wallis, Julia Peck and Jane Lowe,and host club Stockport taking the Bronze team medals with Jenny Knass, Lesley Sinclaire and Rachel Moat.
