An England representative team to compete in the Welsh International in July will be selected on the basis of event winners at the Northern Athletics Under 20 Championships.
The Welsh International on Wednesday 29th July at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium will include three England teams – England (North), England (Midlands) and England (South).
The Northern Athletics Under 20 Championships, Midland Counties AA Under 20 Championships and the South of England Championships all take place on the second weekend of June.
England Athletics Head of Competitions Andy Day said, “Championships racing is an important part of an athlete’s development and we would encourage all athletes to make the most of the championships opportunities given to them. In offering the winners of each of the Area Under 20 championships in the available events the opportunity to represent England we are recognising the achievements of the athletes as well as the importance of the Area championships this summer.
“We hope the athletes will then enjoy competing for their country and that they and their coaches will also be able to learn from the experience of the Welsh International as they continue to develop.”
The events to be contested by both Under 20 men and Under 20 women are as follows: 100m, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 110/100m Hurdles, 400mH, 4 x 100m, 4 x 400m, Shot, Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump.*
