It was mixed fortunes for Northern clubs at the national road relays at Sutton park at the weekend.
Northern champions Derby AC narrowly missed out on adding the national title to haul this season when they finished second to Tonbridge AC. An exciting last lap saw Richard Weir take Derby from sixth to second place just 5 seconds short of Tonbridge. Liverpool Harriers also challenged strongly and just missed out on the medals finishing 4th, Leeds City also made the top ten by finishing 6th.
In the women’s 4 stage Vale Royal AC who picked up bronze medals at the Northern championships last month, collected another set of bronze medals finishing the first Northern club home in 3rd place. Northern Champions Lincoln Wellington had to settle for 6th place. Stockport’s Ellie Vernon ran the fastest time of the day.
In the young athletes relays the North had their one victory of the weekend when Keighley & Craven took the under 13 boys title in impressive style. Liverpool Harriers who also turn solid teams at these young athletes relays picked up silver medals in the under 15s girls event.
