Northern Athletics held a well attended annual open meeting at Trafford on 14th November, Dr Leo Carroll of Wirral AC was invited to be the President for the next 12 months and he was presented with his chain of office by retiring President Mrs Jean Simpson MBE.
Northern Athletics long standing chairman Brian Heywood who had announced his retirement prior to the meeting received a presentation for his services to Northern Athletics and its predecessor North of England Athletics Association. An election took place for his successor and Tony Wood of Blackburn H&AC was duly elected to the post. All other posts were not contested and the incumbents re-elected without a vote.
Northern Athletics treasurer Nigel Orr outline the options facing Northern Athletics if the funding stream from England Athletics was not enhanced. Steve Gaines gave the meeting an update on funding negotiations with England Athletics while Mike Harris outlined the current situation from England Athletics perspective.
