After a night of heavy rain and strong winds, miraculously at 9am the rain stopped, the wind dropped and the sun came out to a great sigh of relief.

The weather did not hamper a great race, although the conditions took its toll on the event usually packed fast times.

Dan Studley (Midlands), Dewi Griffiths (Wales) and Jacob Allen (England) broke away after 6k to establish the race pattern which saw a great race to the tape with Studley taking 1st in 29.43 from Dewi 2nd in 29.46 and Jacob Allen 3rd in 29.50

Notable performances in the men’s race, saw the Northern stalwart Ian Hudspith in 14th in 30.15 and paralympian medallist from 2012 Wondiye Indeibu in 10th in 30.08

It would be remiss of me not to say thanks to a few people. Alex Grant, race director, we can’t say enough about the fantastic organisation, year on year Alex provides us with the spectacle that is the Leeds Abbey Dash, thanks again Alex for allowing me to hijack your race with my elite field. Matt Blunden UK Armed Forces, this is his inter area fixture, thanks again Matt for all the hard work. Kevin Hussey, Jerry Watson, Sally Malir and Paul Baxter, they were collectively my right hand men, this would not have been possible without them, I owe you all big time. England Athletics in the shape of Andi Drake, Run Britain and of course Age UK and their fantastic team lead by Fiona Jerman and Sophie Grey.
