Northern athletes took 3 of the individual titles on offer at the ECCA National Cross Country Champs on Saturday at Donington Park.
Josh Cowperthwaite of Middlesbrough AC Mandale kicked the day off with a convincing win in the U15 Boys race, with Vale Royal AC taking the gold in the team event.
His victory was closely followed by Warrington AC’s Harriet Knowles-Jones triumphing in the Junior Women’s Championship with the trio of Northern victories being completed by U15 Boy, Tommy Dawson of Leeds City.
Stockport Harriers’ Junior Women claimed the team title in their event
Morpeth Harriers emphatically claimed the Senior Men’s title with a great performance with six athletes in the first 40 they took the title by over 170 points from 2nd placed Notts AC. Morpeth’s athletes placed in 3 6 16 30 35 and 40th positions to ensure that the ECCA President Bill McGuirk was able to proudly present the team trophy to his fellow North Easterners as he had at the ECCA Relays back in October. A very proud year for Bill, made even more memorable by Morpeth’s victories.
