Blackpool hosted the inaugural NA U15/U17 5k championships. Held over a measured and certified course, the event was designed to give championship opportunities in the 2 age age groups at the Spring championships. There were medals for the first 3 individuals and teams in the 4 races, with a B team medal also available in this inaugural year.

Starting at 11:00, the U17 men were underway, with 50 athletes completing the course and City of Sheffield individual athletes were 1st, 2nd and 4th, clearly also winning the team medal, with Morpeth taking individual bronze. Liverpool Harriers 2nd team, with Trafford 3rd team.

The U17 women saw a team win for Gateshead, ahead of Liverpool Harriers and Gateshead, with individual medals going to Lancaster, Liverpool Harriers and Manchester Harriers.

The U15 boys had 52 finishers, with Macclesfield, Blackburn and Derby winning individual medals and team awards going to Blackburn, Derby and Warrington.

The U15 girls saw Liverpool Harriers, Chester-le-Street and Cleethorpes winning the 3 individual medals, with team medals going to Salford, Rotherham and Macclesfield.

This Young Athletes 5k will become a regular feature of the Spring championship.
