It is with regret that we must inform you of the death of Roy West who died on the 4th February 2018 Aged 84 years

Roy West

He was a popular and well-known athletics starter in the North East of England. He retired from the sport in 2012 but remained in contact with many Northern officials.

A former police officer and athletics correspondent, Roy had started more than 300 international meetings around the world in a career spanning 60 years.

In that time Roy had overseen many events including two European Championships and the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

He was also the driving force behind the building of the Middlesbrough Clairville Stadium in the 1960’s.

He served on the Board of the British Amateur Athletics Association and was a past President of the Northern Counties AAA ( the forerunner to Northern Athletics).

Are thoughts are with his family and friends.

Roy’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 14th February at 3.30pm Middlesbrough Crematorium, Acklam Road, Middlesbrough TS5 7HD
