We are deeply saddened to report the death, on Saturday 9th March, of Jim Green. Jim was a former President and Executive Board member of Northern Athletics in addition to being Cross Country Committee Chairman, member of Liverpool Harriers and of course the husband of Pat Green the former Chair of the NoEAA.
Pat and Jimmy have been ever-present stalwarts of athletics in the North and particularly their home county of Merseyside for many years. Jim was an international Track Referee and a Cross Country devotee.
Blessed with a dry ‘Scouse’ humour, Jim was a wonderful asset to athletics and a great support to Pat throughout their long marriage and her own varied and successful athletics career. Jim’s first love was sailing but that soon took second place to athletics and over the years Pat and Jimmy became leaders in officiating, team management and governance whilst always continuing to support local Liverpool and Merseyside clubs.
Our thoughts are with Pat, Tony, Michael and the rest of the family at this sad time.

Pat and Jimmy had a long association with the Pembroke club. They were particularly valued as Track and Field judges and always responded positively to club requests. As a Track Judge I spent many hours on the finish stand swapping anecdotes and comments with Jimmy. We both shared the Scouse love of one-liners. As a neighbour for several years I also enjoyed a pint or two at the local Cronton hostelries with him and other friends. He was always excellent company, particularly his dry interventions. My thoughts go to Pat, Tony and Michael.
