The North of England dominated a class field in both the men’s and women’s races. The scarcity of inter area team barring ourselves and the Midlands women did not detract from a well organised and competitive race (Thank you Altincham Harriers and Dave Norman)
The men’s race had a winner in Marc Scott of Richmond and Zetland AC breaking 29min in a time of 28.57, followed by Scotland’s Andrew Butchart on the come back trail with an impressive 29.28, with Dejene Gezimu of the North in 3rd in 29.35.
An impressive run from Joe Wilkinson in 6th in 30.22 returning from an injured ridden winter. David Devine fresh from his gold and silver in the Euro para’s in his first outing for the North was 15th in 31.01, with a tired (through marathon prep) Steven Bayton 25th in 31.46
In the ladies race the North again dominated in a class field with Danielle Hodgkinson running a 14 sec PB to finish 4th in 34.24, behind Jessica Piaescki of Stockport winning in an impressive 32.52.
Danielle finishing just in front of Charlene Thomas in 5th place in 34.54, just holding off our wonder vet Kirsty Longley for the North in 6th place in a PB time of 35.11 and Georgia Malir North in 7th in 35.23. North of England women’s team manager Sally Malir taking 1st place in the Vet 50 category
