Northern Athletics has been asked to pass on the news that one of South Yorkshire’s most respected and longest serving officials has decided to step down from officiating.
Janette Tomlins has been involved at every level of athletics for over 50 years and has filled posts as diverse as Wombwell AC club secretary to a field judge at Olympic and Commonwealth Games in London and Manchester.
As a former school teacher Janette was also heavily involved in the South Yorkshire Schools AA. Travelling to English School Championships with the team and making selections for the South Yorkshire teams. Janette also spent many years as Track & Field Secretary for the South Yorkshire AA. As a coach she devoted much of her time to the successful regional coaching squad during the 1980’s and 90’s.
Her strong involvement with Yorkshire AA also lasted throughout the years as she served on the Yorkshire Committee and was an ever present figure at Track & Field,Cross Country and Road Running Championships.

We at Northern Athletics offer our sincere thanks to Janette for her years of loyal service and although she will be missed as an official she will of course still be around at events and continuing her association with Wombwell SAC and we wish her a long and happy retirement.
