It is with deep regret that we inform you that the stalwart time-keeper from the North, Les Kaye, passed away over the weekend while on one of his many jaunts abroad, this time he was in Egypt.
Les started his time-keeping career over 40 years ago. He gained his expertise while being a member of Dorothy Hyman Track Club and by having strong connections with South Yorkshire county District Association. While at Dorothy Hyman Track Club, Les organised and promoted huge Trophy meetings which attracted athletes from far and wide. His career moved on and he began time-keeping at many county, regional, national and international meetings.
For many years Les preferred para athletics, in particular Stoke Mandeville. He was not content with just home country meetings he travelled the world using his skills as a timekeeper, not only for para athletes but for the vets too, or as they are now known, masters. Throughout his travels Les was always accompanied by his wife Janice.
RIP Les.
A long time in athletics and only a paragraph, he deserves a volume or two.
