‘ I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues for the wonderful cards, messages and good wishes following my recent ‘dramatic’ illness and subsequent stay in hospital in Bedford. Your kindness has been very much appreciated and although I will thank you all personally when I see you I just wanted to record my thanks to you all.
I am back at the club now and apart from some weakness in my hand I’m feeling fine. (And I can still butter the sandwiches)’
