Northern Athletics are very sad to hear of the passing of Joe Galvin of Leigh Harriers.

Joseph Galvin (1942-2023) sadly passed away in his sleep. Athlete and Secretary then Chairman and top coach at the Leigh Harriers athletic club for over 50 years. So many good things to say about him and his wife Margaret. The hundreds of youngsters and adults alike who knew him over the past 80 years will miss him and the generous kindness he gave to everyone. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. RIP Joe.
Joe was made a Paul Harris Fellow by Leigh Rotary Club shortly before he passed away. This was an acknowledgement of all the work he had done in relation to Leigh Harriers and the many, many athletes he coached, encouraged and supported over his time at LH.
Joe’s funeral will take place at 2.15pm Friday 17th March at Saint Ambrose Barlow Roman Catholic Church, Astley, M29 7DZ.
