Northern Athletics Cross Country Team News 2017 / 2018 Northern Athletics Cross Country representative Team events. 2017/18 Northern Athletics Cross Country Representative Team events Northern Athletics will be sending teams, as outlined below, to the events shown. There is also some information as to selection criteria that will be used for the event teams. As previously, the aim is to select younger developing athletes, so they can gain valuable experience of International standard races and competition As in the last 2 years we propose to use the Cross Challenge event at Sefton Park as the first event. We are hopeful that the MCAA and the Armed Forces will also have teams. This fixture is also the selection race for the GB European XC Championships team and our second Northern representative vest of the season which will be Venta de Banos, Spain 16th December (details below) Cross Challenge Sefton Park, Liverpool 25th November.
Venta de Banos, Spain 16th December We plan to take teams of 4 senior men and women (This will focus on development opportunity with under 23’s being considered first), and two team managers. We are in the process of arranging flights from Manchester. England are also sending teams to this fixture. Edinburgh Cross 13th Jan 2018 We plan to send 2 teams of 6 (2 under 23’s and 2 under 20’s included) they will be travelling up on Friday 12th January and staying over on Saturday 13th January, returning Sunday 14th. The season performances including County Champs results will be used to select the teams Home Countries International Saturday 24th March 2018 Wollaton Park Nottingham We plan to select teams of 4 for the junior and senior age category races. Given the closeness of the venue it is unlikely that we will be organising any hotel accommodation for all athletes. However if such is needed for individual athletes who are some distance away, we may do so. We may add an additional fixture at Caceres (in the Madrid region of Spain) on the 11th of Feb. Brussels 18th December Report Antrim 14th Jan Report Home Countries International, Wales 25th March We plan to take 4 teams of 4 (Senior and junior male & female). Selection will be based upon this seasons performance – particularly the Northern Championships. Where we plan to offer places to the first 2 finishers in each category, who wish to compete here. *Please note we have raised concerns that this fixture is scheduled for the same date as the Area 12 / 6 stage relays.
